Abstract

1415485 Aerials SUMITOMO ELECTRIC INDUSTRIES Ltd 6 March 1974 [13 March 1973] 10073/74 Heading H4A A radiating co-axial cable comprises an inner member 5 of at least one helically wound conductor, the winding direction of which is reversed at intervals d approximately equal to #/2 (# = wavelength at the mean operating frequency). It also comprises an outer tubular conductive member 3 in which is a longitudinally extending continous slot 4, from which radiation takes place. Alternatively, the continuous slot may be bridged in the vicinity of the winding reversal points of the inner member, thereby providing an array of slots disposed end to end and each having a length rather less than #/2 (Fig. 3c, not shown). The inner member may be wound upon a core of magnetic material, or of insulating material loaded with magnetic material. When installed, radiation along the length of the cable may be controlled by partially shielding the slot or slots with a conductive plate.
