1415451 Tractor hitches JOHN DEERE SA 24 April 1973 [21 April 1972] 19219/73 Heading A1P A tractor has a transversely extending beam 20 pivotally mounted on spindles 23 and 24 on the two lower draft links 15 (one only shown in Fig. 2) of a three point hitch for supporting a mounted or semi-mounted side operating implement 50. A U-shaped frame 25 also pivotally mounted on spindles 23 and 24 is coupled at the front end 32 by a coupling pin or a chain 34 to the tractor chassis 5. A bracket 35 secured to the frame 25 has an elbow lever 41 pivotally mounted at 40 and articulated at its upper end by an hydraulic jack 42 and at its lower end by a link 43. The rear ends (as seen in the direction of travel) of the jack 42 and link 43 have a common connection to the beam 20 at the coupling pin 45. Operation of the jack 42 from the normal tractor hydraulic system moves the beam 20 about the spindles 23 and 24 and hence alters the working height of the implement 50. The beam 20, frame 25, with jack 42 and linkages are at a sufficiently low level to permit a trailer 12 with draw bar 11 to be attached to the tractor upper draft hitch 10. The jack and linkage attachments to the beam 20 may be lowered further by a modified arrangement as in Fig. 3 (not shown). Power from the take-off shaft 52 is transmitted to the implement 50 via the shaft 53, stub shaft 51, and bevel gearing and drive shaft within the beam 20. The beam and drive to the implement may be made telescopically adjustable. The weight of the implement tends to twist the beam 20 anti-clockwise in Fig. 2, so that some of the implement weight is transferred to the tractor chassis via the frame 25 and chain 24, thus relieving the load on the lower links 15.
