Abstract

1415389 Ultrasonic inspection devices NIPPON STEEL CORP and HITACHI SHIPBUILDING & ENG CO Ltd 1 March 1973 [2 March 1972] 10017/73 Heading H4D A self-contained ultrasonic flow-detection system, for testing, e.g. butt welds in steel plate, comprises a truck 31 on which are mounted a group of probes 22 in a holder 23; a television camera 24 for detecting the line of the weld (or other reference line) and driving an hydraulic (or electric) servo-mechanism 25, 26 so that the probe-holder 23 and/or the truck steering is adjusted to track the weld; flow-indicating, recording and marking equipment 21, 27, 28; a power supply 29 for the truck drive and the equipment; and a reservoir 30 of complant for the probes. The weld may be detected by an electrical or mechanical device instead of by camera 24.
