Abstract

1415362 Up-and-over door operating mechanism JEUMONT-SCHNEIDER 1 Feb 1973 [3 Feb 1972] 5163/73 Heading E2M In an operating system for an up-and-over door 1 moving in vertical slideways A, a linear electric motor, having a tubular armature M 2 and a cylindrical field member M 1 movable longitudinally with respect to one another, is arranged such that the field member M 1 is coupled to the lower part of the door through a cable C extending between the field member M 1 and the lower corner a of the door through a pulley system P 1 -P 6 . When the field member M 1 is energized a vertical force is applied to the lower corner a to raise the door upwardly or downwardly. Interengaging locking means having integers located in both the armature and the top corners of the door permit the door to close but hold it firmly in the closed position. The locking means comprises locking wedges V 1 , V 2 secured to the ends of the armature M 2 and a spring R 1 applies a force to the armature so that an abutment N 1 is located against a fixed arm F 1 . Locking fingers 5 are mounted on arms 3 pivoted to brackets 2 secured to the top side of the door 1. When the door is open the armature M 2 is pushed to the right by an electro-magnetic force which assists the action of the spring R 1 and the door closes so that the fingers 5 are moved to the right against the action of springs R 2 by the inclined surfaces of the wedges V 1 , V 2 and the fingers slide over the wedges and are received behind the rear surface of the wedges in a locking position illustrated in Figs. 3 and 4. A comspensating pulley system is described in the Specification to provide some compensation for the weight of the door to help to improve the stopping and starting operation.
