1415328 Colour pattern preparation systems WILDT MELLOR BROMLEY Ltd 10 Dec 1973 [22 Dec 1972] 59507/72 Heading H4F [Also in Division G3] In a pattern preparation system for producing signals representing a colour pattern (for controlling a knitting machine) a representation of the pattern, e.g. a sketch, sample or pattern graph P.G. Figs. 1 and 2, is scanned by a monochrome television camera 13 to produce brightness signals which are operated on in a spectrum analyser (see Fig. 3) to effectively separate brightness signals due to colours of similar reflectivity (Figs. 3a and 3b, neither shown) the output of the spectrum analyser being converted to a colour representative signal and supplied via a memory 4 (Figs. 1 and 3) to a colour display tube 3 and via a control interface to control a knitting machine or to produce via a tape punch a control tape of a pattern disc for controlling the machine. When the operation of the spectrum analyser does not produce a satisfactory separation of the brightness signals colour filters may be employed to effectively change the reflectivity of one or more of the colours of the pattern graph. The arrnagement may be modified as shown in broken line in Fig. 4 to provide a monochrome display during initial adjustment without storage of the monochrome signals.
