Abstract
1415215 Dioxatricyclodecane derivatives CIBA-GEIGY AG 12 Feb 1973 [10 Feb 1972 10 May 1972] 6813/73 Heading C2C Novel dioxatricyclodecane derivatives of the formula wherein Z 3 is a free or esterified hydroxy group, and the optical antipode and racemate thereof are prepared either by the hydrolytic cyclization of compounds of the formula wherein Z 1 is an esterified hydroxy group, or the optical antipodes or racemates thereof, or by reducing an epoxide of the formula or the optical antipode or racemate thereof, and, if desired or necessary esterifying the resulting compounds in which Z 3 is OH, and if desired, transesterifying the resulting compounds in which R 3 is esterified hydroxy, and/or hydrolysing resulting compound in which Z 3 is hydroxy esterified with a weak acid, and/or resolving racemates thus obtained. (S)-Ketopinyl chloride is obtained by reacting (S)-ketopinic acid with thionyl chloride.
