Abstract
1415041 Burner control circuits KOEHRING CO 3 Jan 1973 [11 Jan 1972] 347/73 Heading F4T A control circuit for a burner comprises leads 1, 2 for connection to an electrical power source and to electrical power consuming components of the burner, e.g. ignition transformer 4 and fuel pump and air fan motor 3, a heat sensitive circuit breaker 7 having breaker contacts 8 in lead 1 and means 9 for opening contacts 8, a thyristor 12 (triac or SCR) connected to the tripping means 9 and operatively associated with a variable resistance type flame detector 15 so that contacts 8 remain closed during normal burner operation and are opened by the tripping means 9, actuated by the thyristor 12, which is triggered by a device 18 having a defined firing voltage, under predetermined abnormal burner conditions. On starting motor 3 and transformer 4 are energized initially but detector 15 has a high resistance so that thyristor 12 is triggered to energize a heating coil 9 which will open contacts 8 unless ignition is effected within a given period, e.g. 15 seconds, the decrease in resistance of detector 15 on ignition rendering thyristor non-conductive. The detector 15 may be a temperature sensitive resistor or a cadmium sulphide photo-conductive cell and the device 18 may be a neon tube, a diac or a Zener diode. The inclusion of device 18 renders the circuit insensitive to flame flicker. The circuit will open contacts 8 on non-ignition, flame shift due to improper burning, or flame extinction. The circuit may include a switch which opens in response to too high a temperature in a combustion chamber in which the burner is located.
