Abstract

1414826 Treating oil pollution of water IDEMITSU KOSAN KK 24 May 1973 [25 May 1972] 24952/73 Heading C1C [Also in Division C3] An oil absorbent (used to remove oil from oilcontaminated water) is produced by foaming, by introducing and releasing of a liquified gas under pressure, a resin of the polyethylene series, containing 30 to 80% by weight of at least one inorganic compound selected from calcium sulphate, calcium sulphite or calcium carbonate, based on the total weight of resin and calcium compound to form a foamy substance having a density of 0À06 to 0À10 g./cc. and shaping it into a network structure. In use the adsorbent is piled up to form a multi-layer structure through which the contaminated water is passed, or alternatively the adsorbent is floated on the surface of the contaminated water or dipped in to the water and then taken up therefrom. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,028,897.
