Abstract

1414575 Coated products EASTMAN KODAK CO 1 Feb 1973 [3 Feb 1972] 5118/ 73 Heading B2E [Also in Divisions C3 and G2] A lithographic support is produced by coating a substrate with a solution or dispersion (aqueous or non-aqueous) of a hydrophilic acrylamide resin and an aldehyde, the weight ratio of resin to aldehyde being from 4:1 to 99:1, and drying the coating, e.g. between room temperature and 80‹C, whereby a subbing layer of water-insoluble resin is formed on the support. Water-soluble resins are preferred, e.g. polyacrylamide and copolymers of acrylamide with monomers such as acrylic acid, vinyl acetate and N-methacryloyl-N- cyanoacetyl-hydrazine. The aldehyde may be a monoaldehyde such as formaldehyde or acetaldehyde, a dialdehyde such as glyoxal or glutaraldehyde, or a polysaccharide derivative containing two -CHO groups in each repeating unit. The coating may optionally include a wetting agent, surfactant, dye, pigment or buffering agent. The substrate to which the coating is applied may be of paper, resin coated paper, zinc, aluminium, anodized aluminium, copper, steel, glass, polyamide or polyolefin; aluminium substrates are preferred.
