Abstract
1414380 Apparatus for the preparation of mineral water MATSUSHITA ELECTRIC INDUSTRIAL CO Ltd 28 June 1973 [28 June 1972 (4) 12 July 1972 (2) 2 Aug 1972 (2) 1 Sept 1972 18 Sept 1972 (6)] 30752/73 Heading B1C Apparatus for preparing mineral water comprises means in the form of an aerating device for mixing water and CO 2 gas in a controlled manner to produce carbonated water having a predetermined CO 2 content and means in the form of a filter/dissolver assembly containing appropriate minerals for dissolving into the carbonated water as it passes through the dissolver at a predetermined rate. A filter may be located and connected to the inlet side of the water supply to the aerating/mixing device or the outlet side of the mineral dissolving means or both, for the removal of objectionable solid particles and sterilizing agents contained in the water. The aerating!mixing device is in the form of a body unit 11 to which a CO 2 bottle 19 is connectable and which supplies CO 2 via a spring biassed valve 27, 24 which is engageable with a spring biassed diaphragm 30, 34 which together controls the pressure of CO 2 in a cavity 23 in the body 11. A passage 47 connects the cavity 23 with a needle valve 48 and chamber 43 which controls the passage of the CO 2 to a base chamber 45, 46 by way of an automatic valve 50 and throttle valve 52. The water supply is connected to the body 11 at 15 and enters through a ball check valve 61, 62 and is connected to the chamber 45 by a duct 60. The throttle valve 52 and automatic valve 50 operate in conjunction with a further spring biassed diaphragm to control the pressure of CO 2 entering the water in the chamber 45 and which when combined passes through bore 63 to the mineral dissolver where-by controlling the flow of carbonated water there-through 'minerals preferably calcium carbonate are absorbed into the water. The mineral dissolver is in the form of a container 501 with a porous filter 504 downstream of the inlet 502 and a further filter 506 at the upper end of the container next to the outlet 503 and the mineral CaCO 3 is packed between the filters at a predetermined density. The upper filter is in the form of a plurality of filter cloth layers and various construction are indicated in Fig. 6a, 6b and 6c (not shown). The physical size of the dissolver, the density of active materials and the rate of flow therethrough are controllable factors in the optium operation of the apparatus.
