Abstract

1413904 Electro-forming nickel record stamping master; vapour depositing Cr and Au layers for replicas RCA CORPORATION 13 April 1973 [19 April 1972] 17795/73 Headings C7B and C7F [Also in Division G5] A stamping master for making video disc records is formed by mounting a recorded master on a turntable in a vacuum chamber, vapour depositing thereon a layer of chromium between 50-500Š thick followed by a layer of gold between 100-2000Š thick as the turntable revolves at about 60 r.p.m., removing the coated master from the chamber and electrolytically plating the gold surface in a first bath with bright nickel to a thickness of 0.3 to 2 mils, followed in a second bath with a plating of standard nickel to a final thickness of about 10 mils. The stamping master is then separated from the recorded master.
