Abstract

1413875 Induction heating OTTENSENER EISENWERK GmbH 10 Jan 1973 [31 Jan 1972] 1427/73 Heading H5H A heating inductor is so designed that it maintains a constant magnetic coupling with a workpiece whilst it is being deformed. The inductor 2 is shown heating a blank 1 which is being rotated about a central axis during the formation of an upturned circumferential flange. The inductor is in two parts 3, 4 hinged together at 6. The lower part 4 is straight to conform to the undeformed blank 1 whilst the upper part 3 is curved to conform to the deformed blank 1<1>. Each part comprises a water cooled copper conductor 9 embraced by a U-shaped laminated structure 10. As shown each structure has three sets of movable laminations (the side limbs only of the U) which are biased towards the blank 1 throughout its deformation and maintained a constant distance from its surface by slides or rollers of ceramic material. Gravity, springs or hydraulic or pneumatic pressure devices provide the bias for the movable laminations. The displacement may be controlled by sensors sensing the temperature of the workpiece. Such an inductor may be used in conjunction with (Fig. 7, not shown) a tunnel like inductor which is pushed on to the periphery of the blank and slides thereon, rollers or slides enabling the sliding and ensuring constant spacing of the inductor from the changing contour of the blank. A counterweight arrangement supports this inductor as its inclination to the vertical changes during the deforming operation. The tunnel inductor heats the edge zone whilst the inductor of the invention heats a portion of the blank radially inwardly of the edge. Specification 1,374,018 is referred to.
