Abstract

1413567 Applying foil lids E SCHIERLE 17 Oct 1973 [27 Oct 1972] 48424/73 Heading B8C Apparatus for applying a foil lid 2 around the rim of a tray 1 comprises a basket 4 for the tray, a stop-plate 7, either the basket or the plate being movable towards the other, slides 14 which bend the edges of the foil underneath the tray rim, and a bracket 20 which engages the slides to push them against the stop-plate to press the foil edges tightly against the rim. When the basket and stop-plate initially engage, the plate moves towards a supporting plate 11 causing the slides on levers 13 to move inwardly. The basket 4 and the bracket 20 then move together causing the bracket to engage the slides. The slides along each side of the tray are mounted on springs 19 to permit the movement towards the stop-plate. The end portions of each slide are not spring-mounted and are positioned to leave room for corner portions 5 of the basket to engage the tray rim.
