Abstract

1413086 Dams and barrages TEERBAU GES FUR (STRASSENBAU mbH 30 April 1973 [29 April 1972] 20479/73 Heading E1H A process for building a dam or barrage having an asphaltic core formed of a plurality of layers and transitional or outer zones adjacent said core, comprises laying a layer of asphaltic core and completely compacting it and subsequently laying the transitional or outer zones and then levelling them off and compacting them to a level below the upper surface of the layer of the core. Preferably the transitional or outer zones are compacted to a level below the interface between the said layer and the layer immediately below it. In practice, the layer of asphaltic core is laid and compacted by installation apparatus running along the length of the dam or barrage and having a lining sliding on each side of the layer and one or more compacting elements for compacting the layer between the linings, and the transitional on outer zones are laid and levelled by installation equipment running behind the installation apparatus, the transitional or outer zones then being compacted by compacting elements running behind the installation equipment.
