Abstract

1412457 Audible signalling SUMITOMO ELECTRIC INDUSTRIES Ltd 27 Dec 1972 [27 Dec 1971 20 April 1972 24 April 1972 27 May 1972] 59713/72 Heading G4F -[Also in Division H4] A circuit for generating an audible tone comprises a transducer formed from a piezoelectric element and a diaphragm adhered thereto which forms part of an oscillator circuit, a switching device being associated with the oscillator to enable the transducer to be energized either continuously or intermittently. In one embodiment (Fig. 4) an oscillator circuit including a transistor 8 and a piezo-electric device 6, of the type shown in Fig. 1 and including a piezoelectric element 2 having silver electrodes 3, 3<SP>1</SP> with a metal diaphragm 1 adhered thereto, is associated with a multivibrator and five switches D, K, Ig, B and S, to form a warning system for use in an automobile, e.g. to indicate: leaving a key in a key hole with a door open; leaving a safety belt unworn with the engine running; driving at excess speed. The different warning signals comprise a continuous tone and two intermittent tones having different on-off periods. Several similar embodiments are described (Figs. 2, 6, and 7, not shown). In all embodiments the piezoelectric device oscillates at its natural frequency which can be in the range 0À4-15 kHz. A specific frequency may be 2À7 kHz and interruption ratio of 2 to 5 Hz, 10 or 15 Hz are suggested. One tone may be interrupted simultaneously at two different rates
