Abstract

1412335 Photo-degradable polymer compositions BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODAFABRIK AG 26 Feb 1973 [26 Feb 1972] 9269/73 Heading C3P Moulding compositions comprise (1) a synthetic organic thermoplastic polymer and (2) 0.01 to 5 weight per cent based on the polymer of a photo-degradation accelerator of formula in which X is H or -CH 2 OR<SP>3</SP>, R<SP>3</SP> is H, or -CO(CH 2 ) 16 CH 3 and R, R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP> and R<SP>4</SP> are H or C 1-3 alkyl. The polymer may be a styrene, olefin or vinyl chloride polymer, or a polylactam, polyurethane, polyester or polyamide. Examples describe composition comprising (1) polyethylene and benzoin isopropyl ether, (2) polypropylene and benzoin methyl ether and (3) polystyrene and methylol benzoin methyl ether.
