Abstract

1412272 Photographic printers KONISHIROKU PHOTO INDUSTRY CO Ltd 5 Oct 1972 [7 Oct 1971] 45982/72 Heading G2A The amount of exposure for printing a negative 23 is determined by measuring the average transmission density of the negative and correcting it according to the measured values of the means of the maximum and minimum densities and the density of a central zone of the negative. As shown light from the negative 23 is directed by optical fibres 27 to sets of photo-detectors 28, 28', 28" for measuring blue, green and red light respectively. As shown, the blue photo-detectors 28 are connected to an adder 30 and log converter 31 for producing an average blue transmission density signal; and to max. and min. detectors 32, 34, log converters 33, 35 and an adder 36 for producing a mean blue density signal. The central photo-detectors 28 are connected to a log converter 37 for producing a central zone blue density signal. Corresponding signals are produced for the other colours and elements 38, 38 , 38", 39, 39', 39", 40, 41 and 42 process the signals to grade the negative and produce an appropriate shutter control signal. This signal may be determined and used during exposure or determined before exposure, and memorized for subsequent use. A half mirror 25 directs the negative image on to a viewer or film alternatively locatable at 26.
