Abstract

1411597 Photochromic glass JENAER GLASWERK SCHOTT & GEN VEB 12 Dec 1972 57216/72 Heading C1M [Also in Division C4] A photochromic silver halide-containing phosphate glass comprises a base glass in percentages by weight of 20-80 P 2 O 5 ; 1-30 SiO 2 ; 0-25 R 2 <SP>III</SP>O 3 ; 5-20 R<SP>II</SP>O and 0-20 R 2 <SP>I</SP>O the balance, if any, consisting of compatible constituents, in which is incorporated, with respect to the base glass: 0À02 CuO and 0À1-0À5 AgX, wherein R<SP>1</SP> is at least one metal selected from lithium, sodium and potassium, R<SP>II</SP> is at least one metal selected from calcium, strontium, magnesium, barium, zinc and lead, R<SP>III</SP> is aluminium and/or lanthanum and X is chlorine, bromine and/or iodine. The base glass may additionally contain an oxide and/or phosphate of zirconium and titanium.
