Abstract

1411241 Hairpieces J C FORBES 22 Aug 1973 [24 May 1972] 24378/72 Heading A4V A method of making a hairpiece comprises the embedding of the root ends of groups of hairs in a layer of liquid or semi-liquid plastics material shaped to conform to a scalp region, the plastics material subsequently setting to form a flexible film with embedded groups of hair ends. The plastics material may be an elastomeric material e.g. a block co-polymer of styrene and butadiene which is advantageously a thermo-setting plastics to allow of softening by heat for manipulation. A solution of plastics may be applied to a non-stick surface and the solvent allowed to evaporate or it may be applied to the wearers scalp for moulding. Hairs are inserted in bunches by hand or in large quantities simultaneously using a jig. A hairpiece may be made in sections for subsequent joining by welding or by an adhesive. An elastic fixing means is disclosed whereby the hairpiece is attached by elastic anchoring strips, which may be extensions of the hairpiece foundation, wound round clumps of live hair and secured there by wire or spring clips.
