Abstract
1410998 Matrix displays OWENS-ILLINOIS Inc 12 Oct 1972 [12 Oct 1971] 47055/72 Heading G5C In operating a gas discharge panel with electrodes insulated from the gas, write voltages Wx<SP>1</SP>, Wy<SP>1</SP> are applied to a selected pair of electrodes when the sustain voltage S<SP>1</SP> has zero slope and is less than its peak amplitude, the total voltage applied to each electrode not exceeding the peak sustain voltage. The method prevents energization of non-selected cells of the panel. The voltages Wx, Wy may be different and applied when the sustain voltage is not zero Fig. 3, not shown. Panels with crossed conductor arrays and arrays on a single substrate are referred to. The sustain voltage may have sinusoidal, trapezoidal or triangular waveform.
