Abstract

1410864 Supply circuits for microwave ovens AMANA REFRIGERATION Inc 6 Nov 1973 [11 April 1973] 51510/73 Heading H2H A supply circuit for the magnetron 38 of a microwave oven 10 comprises an electromagnetic radiation detector 62 which supplies a signal to a control circuit 12 to disconnect a supply source 64 from the magnetron during a predetermined period of time following initial energization of the magnetron. The source 64 energizes a relay 70 via a thyristor SCR1 and bridge circuit 76 so that the relay enables the source to be connected to the supply 40 which provides heating of the magnetron filament and the magnetron anode voltage. The detector 62 is a silicon or germanium diode which detects the electromagnetic radiation and supplies a signal to an amplifier 78. When the amplified signal reaches a level sufficient to trigger a unijunction device 86, a transistor 88 is switched on thereby switching off the thyristor SCR 1 and de-energizing the relay 70 to disconnect the supply 64 from the magnetron supply 40. The relay is held de-energized for a period of time determined by the discharge of a capacitor C5 whilst the magnetron reverts from an initial unstable oscillation mode to the normal operating mode. When the unijunction device 86 becomes non-conductive due to the discharge of the capacitor C5 through a thyristor SCR2, the transistor 88 is switched off thereby allowing the thyristor SCR1 to conduct and the relay to be re-energized. The thyristor SCR2 remains conductive to prevent further triggering of the unijunction device except when the source 64 is turned on again after having been turned off.
