Abstract
1410557 Lasers PHYSIK INSTRUMENTE (PI) GmbH 11 Sept 1973 [12 Sept 1972 5 Sept 1973] 42591/73 Heading H1C To readily adjust the spatial emergent position and direction of a laser output beam, especially from a gas laser, the laser 12, Fig. 1, is mounted vertically on orthogonal cross slides 9, 10, is axially rotatable on a pivot member 2, and has an associated mirror system 3, 4, 5 with the final mirror 5 both angularly adjustable and movable along the length of the laser. The laser 12 is held within a tubular member 11, which is preferably rotatable within a tubular member 1 itself supporting a rotatable holder 6 carrying the mirrors 3, 4 and a holder 7 carrying the adjustable mirror 5, the latter holder being both rotatable and movable along the length of the tubular member 11. If the lase emits a polarized beam, the plane of polarization may be rotated by rotational adjustment so that the laser tube has a different rotational position about its axis relative to the mirror system. The tilt of the mirror 5 may be controlled through a micrometer 22, Fig. 2, with fine adjustment provided by an interposed piezo-electric transducer held in place by a magnet 19 and a ferromagnetic plate 20. A similar arrangement may be used for rotational positioning of the tubular member 11, Fig. 3a (not shown).
