1410488 Sensitizing silver halide emulsions KONISHIROKU PHOTO INDUSTRY CO Ltd 29 Nov 1972 [29 Nov 1971] 55147/72 Heading G2C A photo-sensitive element, sensitive to radiation emitted from a helium-neon gas laser or a semiconductor laser, comprises a silver halide emulsion layer containing 0.1 to 4.0% silver iodide and at least one compound of Formula I. wherein each of Y 1 and Y 2 complete a benzothiazole, benzoselenazole, naphothiazole, naphthoselenazole or quinoline nucleus, optionally substituted by halogen, alkyl (1-4C) or alkoxy (1-4C); A 1 and A 3 are each optionally substituted alkyl; A2 is H or alkyl (1-4C); X is an anion; a is 0 or 1, b is 1 or 2, c is 0 or 1 and m is 2 or 1 when the compound is an intra-molecular salt; and which contains in said emulsion layer and/or a protective layer of the element at least one of the compounds having the following general formulae (II) to (VIII): in which Z completes an optionally substituted thiazole, benzothiazole, naphthothiazole, oxazole, benzoxazole, naphthoxazole, selenazole, benzaselenazole, naphthoselenazole, 3, 3-dialkylindolenine, benzimidazole, thiazoline, pyridine or quinoline nucleus; Q completes an optionally substituted pyrazolone, barbituric acid, thiobarbituric acid isoxazolone, 3-hydroxythionaphthene or 1, 3 indanedione nucleus; R is optionally substituted alkyl; R 1 , R2, R3 and R4 each represent H, Cl, an alkyl, alkoxy, amino, acylamino, alkylamino, dialkylamino or sulfonic (in acid or salt form) group; R 5 is H or Cl; M is H, Na or K; X is an anion; n and p are each 1, 2 or 3 and m is as defined above; in which Y is H, an alkyl, amino, acylamino or carboxylic (in acid or salt form) group; and R6 to R 17 each represent H, Cl, OH, an alkoxy, alkyl, amino, acylamino, alkylamino, carboxylic (in acid or salt form) or sulfonic (in acid or salt form) group, or R 12 and R 13 together form a benzene ring fused to the benzene ring shown in Formula (VII); in which R 18 is H, acyl or alkoxycarbonyl; R 19 is H or alkyl; and R 20 , R 21 and R 22 are each H, an alkyl or sulfonic (in acid or salt form) group. The emulsion may also contain a water soluble iridium salt e.g. Na 3 IrCl 6 and Na 2 IrCl 6 .
