Abstract

1410097 Hatch covers NAVIRE CARGO GEAR INTERNATIONAL AB 7 June 1973 [9 June 1972] 27116/73 Heading B7S [Also in Division E2] In a rack and pinion operated hatch cover the rack 17 has an extension 18 extending beyond the edge of a movable hatch cover panel 10, the rack extension 18 being engaged by a pinion 19 driven by motor-driven gears 21, 20, at least one tooth of the rack 17 being displaceable with respect to the adjacent portions of the rack and movable with sealing packings 15, 16 which engage ledges 13 and 14 of the coaming 11 surrounding the hatch opening. As shown in Fig. 1, the sealing packings 15, 16 are mounted in two teeth 31, 32 of the rack and these teeth are adapted to be displaced vertically by means of a beam-like structure 27 which is urged upwardly by fluid-pressure operated rams 29 and downwardly by springs 28. A seal 30 of pliable rubber fabric is provided between the beam-like structure 27 and the cover panel 10.
