1409671 Prostanoic acid derivatives MAY & BAKER Ltd 28 Feb 1974 [2 March 1973] 10402/73 Addition to 1352691 Heading C2C The novel compound, 7 - [2 - hydroxy - 5- (4 - ethyl - 3 - hydroxyoctyl) - cyclopentyl] heptanoic acid, and its non-toxic salts, are prepared by reduction of 7 - [2 - hydroxy - 5- (4 - ethyl - 3 - hydroxyoct - trans - 1 - enyl) cyclopentyl]heptanoic acid, followed if desired by conversion of the free acid to a non-toxic salt. Pharmaceutical compositions having hypotensive, bronchodilator, gastric acid secretion and stimulation of uterine contraction activity, comprise the above novel compound, or a non- toxic salt thereof, together with a pharmaceutical carrier. The compositions may be administered orally (e.g. by inhalation in aerosol form), rectally, vaginally or parenterally.
