Abstract

1409666 Alarm systems NAC Inc 11 Sept 1972 [9 Dec 1971 20 Jan 1972 4 May 1972] 42146/72 Heading G4N Changes in a pattern under surveillance are detected by: monitoring the pattern with a TV camera; sampling an area of the pattern by sampling the monitor video output signal by vertical and horizontal gating signals; integrating and storing the video signal during one sample period; similarly sampling the same area at a later time; comparing the integrated signals of the two samples; and producing an output signal if they differ by more than a predetermined amount. The comparisons are made repetitively, and in order to avoid the production of false output signals, the stored signal is updated periodically, by storing the second sample of one comparison and using it as the first sample of a subsequent comparison. The arrangement may be used to detect intruders or fines, and a number of monitors may be sequentially fed into the system. As described, the vertical and horizontal gating pulses define nine sample areas which may be adjusted in size and in position in the monitored area. For example in an art gallery the samples may be adjusted to correspond with valuable paintings. The integrated signals of the samples are fed to A/D converters and the storing and comparison is carried out on the resulting digital signals.
