Abstract

1409375 Powder coating compositions HOECHST AG 19 Jan 1973 [22 Jan 1972] 2947/73 Headings C3B and C3R Powdered compositions are prepared by mixing finely divided hardenable synthetic resin, a hardener therefor and pigment which is metal, a metal alloy or mica. The components are mixed under an inert gas and plasticized at a temperature (e.g. 100-160‹ C.) at which the viscosity is higher than the drop viscosity but at which flow may take place. The mixture is homogenized by shearing stress and then converted to the powdered state. The metal may be Al, Cu, Cu-Al or Cu-Zn alloy alone or in admixture with TiO 2 ; the content of pigment may be 3-12% by wt. of the total composition and it may have a particle size of 1 to 50 Á. A plasticizer, e.g. stearic acid, may be present. Examples relate to epoxy and polyester resins.
