Abstract

1409261 Mechanical interrupters LUCAS ELECTRICAL CO Ltd 29 Dec 1972 [15 Jan 1972] 2025/72 Heading H1N In a contact-breaker assembly for an ignition system distributer, Fig. 1, a leaf-spring 19 attached at one end to a movable contact 14 and urging it towards a fixed contact 13 acts as an electrical connection and has a clip 23, Fig. 5, formed at its other end which is anchored by an insulating abutment member 21 being attached to a tongue 22 upstanding from an angle-plate 11. The clip serves as an attachment point for conductive leads terminated with various forms of terminal members having interlocking means to resist transverse movement relative to the clip after being slid in from the open end, withdrawal in the longitudinal direction being prevented by the closed end of the clip and the abutment member when assembled. Adjacent one edge of a terminal member 25, Fig. 2, a deformable tag 27 grips the sheath of a conductive lead extending generally parallel to said edge, the core being welded to the member, whilst adjacent the opposite edge a cranked portion 28 is formed with the optional provision of a similar cranked portion adjacent the one edge (Fig. 4, not shown). Intermediate the two edges is a centrally disposed dimpled projection 26 which can be gripped by the clip and which is of such a depth that a second terminal member 29 (Fig. 7, not shown), being substantially flat with an aperture 29a, can be assembled back-to-back in manner shown in Fig. 2. Initial attachment of two conductive leads can be by means of a double-edged terninal member 31, Fig. 6, which has a similar dimple projection 32 and which permits a third conductive lead to be back-connected as described or which provides means for replacing either of the two leads by cutting off at the cranked portion of the terminal member 31 adjacent the lead attachment point and using a part 29 as a replacement or another part 35 (Fig. 9, not shown) which has an open-ended slot for engagement with the dimple projection and an extension 37 for insertion in the channel of abutment member 21 and which can be inserted without dismantling the existing assembly.
