Abstract

1409124 Optical record sensors NCR CORP 19 April 1973 [29 April 1972] 18913/73 Heading G1A In a photo-electric system for scanning e.g. black lines on white paper, the photo transistor 14 is provided with a non linear (exponential) load impedance such as a diode 15, so that the circuit is usable over a large range of illumination. CONTRAST SENSITIVITY CIRCUIT:- The sensor output pulses are fed to an amplifier 13 having a load resistor 18 with two series (forward conducting) diodes 16, 17 to provide a small voltage-difference between the inputs to differential amplifiers 19, 20. Amplifier 20 charges capacitor 22 to store the brightest signal as a reference value for amplifier 19, and resistors 3, 4 determine the proportion of the small voltage drop applied to amplifier 19 and hence the brightness contrast ratio at which it switches over. Amplifier 19 controls a flip-flop circuit 24 which may be reset by a signal through resistor 9. The negative output of amplifier 19 is clamped by diode 23.
