Abstract

1408456 Cutting torches MESSER GRIESHEIM GmbH 21 Dec 1972 [23 Dec 1971] 59089/72 Heading F4T A cutting torch for cutting through round and polygonal material comprises a torch head in which there are located a cutting nozzle 14, at least one heating nozzle 24 adjacent nozzle 14, and pre-heating nozzles 16 disposed in advance of the nozzles 14 and 24 in the cutting direction, the outlet apertures of the nozzles 14 and 24 being disposed in a planar first surface 22 and the outlet apertures of the nozzles 16 being disposed in a second surface 30 inclined to the first surface 22. Surface 30 may be concave or planar and at, for example, 135 degrees to surface 22. The heating nozzle(s) 24 receive a fuel gas/oxygen mixture and may comprise one or two coaxial annular channels or one or two rings of channels around the oxygen-receiving cutting nozzle 14. In a further form, the torch head is provided with two rows of fuel/oxygen mixture receiving nozzles of which those adjacent the nozzle 14, located between the rows, form the heating nozzles and open into surface 22 and the remainder form the preheating nozzles and open into the surface 30. The outlets in said rows may be orientated so that the flames from one row of nozzles converge into the flames from the other row. A valve may be provided to cut off gas supply to the preheating nozzles 16 after preheating of the starting point of a cut.
