Abstract

1408085 Coated paper AGFA-GEVAERT AG 18 Jan 1973 [19 Jan 1972] 2576/73 Heading B2E [Also in Division G2] A protective strip for a photographic roll film consists of black paper coated on one side with a coloured lacquer layer, the outer surface of the lacquer layer having a matt finish. The lacquer layer may be rendered matt by the addition of matting agents to the lacquer, e.g. silicon dioxide, aluminium oxide, titanium dioxide, chemically modified starch or a polyacrylonitrile powder. The matting agent may have been rendered hydrophobic by (a) removal of absorptively bound water by heating, (b) displacement of water by organic solvents, (c) surface coating with compounds which contain a fatty acid chain with from 4-20 carbon atoms in addition to a hydrophylic polar group. Alternatively the lacquer may be rendered matt by treatment with a roughened or rastered calendar roller.
