Abstract
1407868 Cutting and mounting transparencies EASTMAN KODAK CO 18 Jan 1973 [19 Jan 1972] 2689/73 Heading G2X [Also in Division B4] Apparatus 15 for severing a portion 10 e.g. a film frame of an elongate strip 11, e.g. of exposed film, wherein the apparatus comprises a strip cutter 35 and a retaining member 21 for holding the strip portion on a strip support e.g. a mount 3, in preparation for the cutter to sever the strip portion from the remainder, the retaining member, in a retaining position being arranged to hold the strip portion on the support, and spring means connected to the retaining member and arranged to move between two actuating positions in which it urges the retaining member to the retaining position and a rest position respectively. The cutter comprises a blade 35 secured to a support member 36 which is pivotally mounted on a side wall 39 of a table 16, the blade being pivoted to an inoperative position by a spring 43. The retaining member is in the form of a lever pivotally mounted in a slidable carriage 18 between the rest postion A, Fig. 3, and the retaining position, the lever being moved to either of the positions by an over-centre spring device 28. The apparatus also includes a pair of rolls 50, 51, the roll 50 being loaded by spring 60 toward the roll 51, the rolls are rotated by gears 68, 69. In operation, with the apparatus in the position shown in Fig. 2, a plastics mount 2, 3 is located on the table 16 in front of the carriage 18 and the film strip fed across the mount portion 3 until the film frame 10 is located above a recess 9 in the frame. The blade support member 36 is then moved downwardly until a projection 44 thereon engages the lever 21 causing the over centre spring to move an arm 45 of the lever into contact with the film frame 10; continued movement of the member 36 then causes the blade to sever the strip. The blade is then allowed to return to its rest position and the carriage 18 moved forwardly taking with it the frame 23. As the position 2 of the frame approaches the rollers 50, 51, it is folded on to the frame portion 3 by a sloping plate 48 thereby causing pins 5 on the portion 3 to enter holes in the portion 2. Continued movement of the carriage 18 causes the folded frame to be gripped by the rolls and drawn therebetween Fig. 6 (not shown), the pins 5 then being peered over thereby; the frame is delivered by the rolls into a container 71. As the carriage is returned to its initial position, an arm 31 on the lever 21 engages a resilient pin 73 thereby causing the over-centre spring device to return the retaining member to its rest position.
