Abstract

1407640 Phosphorus oxydichlorofluoride HOECHST AG 29 Dec 1972 [31 Dec 1971] 60047/72 Heading C1A POFCl 2 is prepared by reacting POCl 2 with hydrogen fluoride at a temperature within the range 10‹ to 130‹ C. in a continuous flow apparatus, the hydrogen fluoride being admixed with a diluent, e.g. N 2 and/or HCl and/or POF 3 , preferably in a ratio of 0À5 : 1 to 20 : 1, more preferably 2 : 1 to 10 : 1. The reaction may be carried out at a pressure of 0À5 to 6 atmospheres and a metal halide catalyst may be used, e.g. TiCl 4 , SbCl 5 , SnCl 4 , AsCl 3 , AsCl 5 , ZrCl 4 , AlCl 3 , HfCl 4 or SnCl 2 , in a proportion of 0À1 to 5% by weight based on POCl 3 .
