Abstract

1407294 Drafting machines PACKMAN RESEARCH Ltd 11 Jan 1974 [13 Oct 1972] 47417/72 Heading G1X [Also in Division B4] In a drafting, marking or cutting machine comprising a tool 12 mounted on a carriage 10 for movement along a rail 7 which itself is mounted on a further carriage 6 for movement along a further rail 3, the further rail 3 is fixed at each of its ends to a frame 2 of the machine and thrust members are so located and so adjustable that the effects of any bowing of the further rail 3 can be compensated for in the horizontal and vertical planes. As shown in Fig. 4, each end of the rail 3 is fixed to the frame 2 by a screw 25 and nut 26, and adjustable screws 29A, 29B mounted in the frame and engaging a flange 30 on a reduced end portion 31 of the rail 3 are adjustable for compensating distortion of the rail in the plane of the figure. Additional adjusting screws (28A, 28B) Fig. 3, (not shown) may be provided for compensating distortions in the vertical plane. A third rail 5 may be provided to guide the free end of the rail 7 and the rail 5 too may have adjustable mountings at its ends. The carriages 6 and 10 may be moved along the rails 3 and 7 by manually rotatable lead screws 16 and 20, with handles 17, 21 associated with detents which "click" into one or more recesses for each turn of the handles. Instead of the adjustable screws 28A, 28B, 29A, 29B being arranged generally parallel to the rail 3, they may, in an alternative embodiment, be substantially transverse thereto.
