Abstract
1,071,314. Educational appliances. NEW CLEAR Ltd. Feb. 18, 1966 [March 3, 1965], .No. 9014/65. Heading G5G. [Also in Division G1] A stand or support for apparatus for teaching physics comprises a wooden box 10 forming a base having apertures 13 into which fit support rods 15, clamps 17, further support rods 16 and carriages 20 adapted to be slidably mounted on the rods 16. The box is divided into compartments which receive the parts of the stand. The stand comprises further clamps 38, 42, and each carriage has a knife edge 23 on its upper surface. The carriages also have holes 24 which receive guide rods 26, 27 (Fig. 5, not shown), of a clamping device 25. Each clamp is a unitary aluminium casting. The clamping device comprises two parallel guide rods 26, 27 fixed to jaw member 30 and having a second jaw member 31 slidably mounted thereon. Adjustment of the jaw members is effected by rotation of wheel 34, which has ten main divisions, on a screw-threaded rod 33, the pitch of the thread on the rod being one millimetre. Thus the clamping device may be employed as a micrometer gauge.
