Abstract

1407150 Carrier-bound proteins BOEHRINGER MANNHEIM GmbH 4 Dec 1973 [8 Dec 1972] 56024/73 Addition to 1357861 Heading C3H A process for the production of carrier-bound proteins, e.g. the enzymes glucose oxidase, trypsin and hexokinase wherein a protein is reacted in aqueous solution with a coupling compound which contains at least one group capable of acylating or alkylating proteins and at least one further functional group capable of producing a bond with a carrier substance whereafter this further functional group is reacted with the carrier substance. The functional group capable of reacting with the protein may be an ethylene imine group, a halide group activated by unsaturation, an acid halide, an azide, an acid anhydride, an aldehyde or an oxazolone. The further functional group is preferably a polymerizable double bond. The carrier may be produced in the aqueous solution or suspension by the polymerization of at least one monomer, e.g. a derivative of acrylic acid, methacrylic acid or vinyl alcohol or a mixture of said derivatives, and the carrier may be crosslinked after the production thereof. In a preferred embodiment the polymerizable monomer or monomer mixture is added to the aqueous solution after the reaction of the protein with the coupling compound and is then polymerized.
