Abstract

1407129 Coupling of enzymes to polymers; polymerizing in frozen solution NATIONAL FOOD RESEARCH INSTITUTE DIRECTOR OF 8 March 1973 [9 March 1972(3) 1 Sept 1972] 11359/73 Headings C3H C3P A method of producing a water insoluble composition of an enzyme, e.g. amylase, glucoamylase, glucase isomerase, acylase, protease, D-amino oxidase, catalase or invertase is obtained by irradiating a frozen aqueous solution containing one or more water-soluble monomers or polymers and an enzyme with ionizing radiation that effects polymerization of the one or more monomers or polymers. Alternatively a solution of the monomers or polymers may be irradiated and the enzyme added to the irradiated solution. The preferred monomers are acrylic acid or salt thereof, a bisacrylamide, acrylamide or derivative thereof, and polymerization is preferably initiated using <SP>60</SP>Co or <SP>137</SP>Cs radiation.
