Abstract

1406873 Monitoring liquid level ROBERT BOSCH GmbH 15 Aug 1972 [16 Aug 1971] 37967/72 Heading G1N A device for monitoring the level of liquid in a reservoir comprises a first thermistor 12 arranged outside the liquid to be monitored to provide a reference signal, a second thermistor 11 within the reservoir to provide a measuring signal and means for comparing said reference signal and said measuring signal, the first thermistor is arranged above the second in a tubular housing 10 having inlet and outlet and breather ports 17, 18. The thermistors are arranged in a bridge circuit with resistors 20, 22, the bridge imbalance signal being applied via differential amplifier 25 to actuate lamp 43. If the first thermistor 11 is surrounded by liquid the rate of cooling is different from that of the second thermistor 12 in the air whereby the potential or junction 45 drops below that at junction 47, thus the potential at input 24 of the amplifier is less than that at input 30, the output from the amplifier is negative, blocking transistor 41 and extinquishing lamp 43. When the liquid level drops so that both thermistors are in the air, junctions 44, 45 are at the same potential but the potential at junction 47 is lower due to diode 29 and resistors 26, 27 so that amplifier 25 produces a positive output signal enabling transistor 41 and turning on the lamp.
