Abstract
1406194 Indoor games SEGA ENTERPRISES KK 7 Sept 1973 [31 Dec 1972] 42142/ 73 Heading A6H A coin-freed games apparatus comprises an opaque running surface 6 over which models 8, e.g. in the form of motorcycles can move; magnets 32 positioned underneath the surface 6 and movable, to impart a diversified motion to the models 8; a further model 7 movable under the control of a steering handlebar 4 operable by a player with the object of outrunning and avoiding collisions with the models 8; a projector 9 to project continuously moving images of a desired road pattern on to the surface 6 so that the models appear to be travelling along a road; and a carriage 12 for the magnets 32. The carriage 12 is mounted for linear reciprocation beneath the surface 6 and carries a rotatable disc 20 upon which are two revolvable shafts each carrying respective second discs 29, the magnets 32 being mounted on further revolvable shafts carried by the discs 29. Suitable drives, Figs 3 to 7 (not shown), cause the discs 20 and 29 to rotate and impart various motions to the magnets 32, and hence to the models 8, but the arrangement is such that the magnets always retain a particular orientation so that the models always appear to be moving in a predetermined direction despite their other movements.
