Abstract
1405924 Rotary compressors NUOVA JURTECHNICA Inc 18 Oct 1972 [20 Oct 1971] 47935/72 Heading F1F [ Also in Divisons F2 and H2] A compressor unit, for use in motor vehicle air conditioning, comprises a fixed housing 5 surrounding a rotor 7 which is rotated by a coaxial magnetic coupling comprising a driven rotatable pole ring 10 connected to the rotor 7 and a coaxial driving rotatable pole ring 15 radially spaced from the pole ring 10, one of which pole rings e.g. ring 15 is electromagnetic by having a coil 17 arranged for D.C. excitation and each of the pole rings circumscribing at least part of the axial length of the compressor rotor 7, and the rotor 7, the housing 5, and the driven pole ring 10 are hermetically sealed in a chamber 12 by a magnetically permeable wall 13 between the two pole rings. The coil 17 is connected to a supply via slip rings 18, 18' brushes 19, 19' and links poles 16; the pole ring 10 has permanent magnets and alternate polarity poles 11. The rotor 7 is carried by a stub shaft 3 secured to a pivot arm 1 bolted to the vehicle engine and, in operation, refrigerant is drawn in and discharged via conduits 34, 25. The pole ring 15, supported by bearings 20, 20', is unitary with a V-belt drive pulley 21 having an axially displaceable wall 22 biased by a spring 23, and is driven via a belt from a second such pulley, Fig. 4 (not shown), whose axially movable rod (40) is controlled by pivotable flyweights (43).
