Abstract

1405838 Rotary positive-displacement fluidmachines WIBAU WESTDEUTSCHE INDUSTRIE-U STRASSEN-BAUMASCHINEN GmbH 25 April 1973 [25 April 1972] 19686/73 Heading F1F In a peristaltic pump for an asphaltic material in a fluid state such as a molten mastic asphalt, the pumping tube 5 is made of a heat and bituminous resistant material e.g. rubber, or a plastics material, containing filling agents and/or additives to render it capable of withstanding a temperature of 200 to 240‹C, and means is furnished to sustain the temperature of the asphaltic material in said tube in a pumpable state. The peripheral wall of a housing 1, a charging trough 9 and a discharge conduit 12 may therefore be provided with heating jackets or ducts 15, 16, 17, the heating fluid being e.g. oil, which is distributed and collected by headers 13, 14. Metal inserts or filling agents may be lodged in the tube to improve its thermal conductivity. For reinforcement the tube may have a steel core (6), Fig. 2 (not shown), which may be similar to that of a motor-vehicle tyre. Rollers 3 on a rotor 2 may be rigid throughout or coated with a material similar in flexibility and resilience to the tube. The peripheral wall of the housing may carry a steel backing strip 7 with a flexible and resilient rubber layer 8 thereon to support the tube. A flexible and resilient member 18 compensates for changes in the lengths of the tube and discharge conduit. To facilitate filling of the tube a negative pressure may be maintained in the housing. A mechanism 10 stirs the material in the trough.
