Abstract

1405281 Measuring dimensions photoelectrically AGA AB 24 June 1972 29714/72 Heading G1A The dimension of an object 1 is measured by projecting the borders of the object in one dimension on to a number of photodiodes (4, 5) scanning the luminous intensity of the diodes with at clock frequency and using either the number not illuminated or the number illuminated as a measure of the dimension. The system is preferably used for measuring the diameter of a moving hot wire in a rolling mull. A light source 1 casts a shadow of the object 2 on to either one or two sets of photo diodes 4, 5. These are scanned to determine whether they are illuminated and the resulting output is processed and fed to a direct read-out counter 8. Upper and lower limits for the dimension may be set and an alarm activated when these limits are exceeded.
