Abstract

WOTAN-WERKE GmbH 21 Aug 1973 [21 Aug 1972] 39637/73 Heading B3C A boring and facing machine comprises a spindle sleeve 4 journalled in a housing 1, and a faceplate 12 disposed concentrically with the sleeve, the faceplate having an aperture and being connectable to a rotary drive, the faceplate and sleeve being engageable for combined rotation, and disengageable, whereat the faceplate is held against rotation, the faceplate in its operative position being supported on the sleeve, and in its inoperative position on the housing. Housing 1 forms part of a headstock 3 which is vertically slidable on a column 2. Spindle sleeve 4 is rotated at different speeds by a transmission selectively connected to a gear 7 and sliding dog 8, or through a gear 9. A boring spindle 11 is axially slidable but rotatable with sleeve 4. In operation, faceplate 12 is connected to sleeve 4 by dogs 17, 18, on rings 14, 22, and the spindle 11, sleeve 4, and faceplate 12 rotate together. If the faceplate is not required, for example when boring only, bolts 20 are unscrewed from ring 22 and springs 26 cause the heads 24 of the bolts to bear on a ring 19 fixed to the faceplate so that dogs 17, 18, are disengaged and conical seatings 32, 33, on rings 22, 31, engage, so that the faceplate is clamped against rotation on the headstock.
