Abstract
1404897 Gas discharge display panels; cathode materials and processing OKI ELECTRIC INDUSTRY CO Ltd and OKAYA ELECTRIC INDUSTRY CO Ltd 5 April 1973 16303/73 Heading H1D Cold-cathode electrodes 8, e.g. nickel or nickel alloy wires, of a multi-cellular gas discharge display device are coated with an electron-emissive substance 9 in the form of a salt, e.g. the carbonate of Ba, Ca or Sr which is converted to oxide by evacuating the device and heating by applying a voltage across the respective cathode electrodes, after which a filling of inert gas such as Xe or A, or mercury vapour is provided. Anode electrode 7 crossing the cathode electrodes 8 at perforations 4 in an insulating spacer 5 have a coating 6 of phosphor, e.g. a mixture of Zn 2 SiO 4 or Mn, ZnS and Ag, or ZnCdS and Ag. Alternatively the phosphor may be applied to the inner surfaces of the perforations 4 or to the substrate 2 supporting the anodes 7. A driving circuit comprising two rotary switches connected in series with a transistor, a limiting resistor and a D.C. source across the electrodes is described (Fig. 3, not shown).
