Abstract

1404564 Calcium carbonate-filled polymerbased paints PLUSS-STAUFER AG 4 July 1973 [18 Oct 1972 26 Feb 1973] 31846/73 Headings C3P and C3R [Also in Division C4] A varnish or paint contains ultrafine natural CaCO 3 as a filler, the CaCO 3 having a weight average particle diameter of 0À5-0À7 microns and a maximum particle diameter of 3-4 microns. Example 1 discloses a varnish based on a long oil oxidising alkyd and containing rutile TiO 2 as pigment, Example 2 a varnish based on a short oil storing alkyd and a melamine resin, also containing rutile TiO 2 , and Example 3 an emulsion paint based on a dispersion of a copolymer of vinyl acetate and the vinyl ester of versatic acid and containing rutile TiO 2 , a natural calcite extender and a calcined clay extender, other conventional ingredients being present in all the examples.
