Abstract

1403249 Transistor switching circuits FERRANTI Ltd 25 Oct 1973 [28 Oct 1972] 49797/72 Heading H3T A high voltage switching circuit comprises a plurality of semi-conductor devices T 1 -T n connected in cascade to a constant current source, i.e. resistor R, the base electrode of one of the devices T 1 being connected to its emitter electrode through a resistance R 1 and to a source of trigger pulses, each other semi-conductor device having its base electrode connected to its emitter electrode so that in operation each transistor passes the same quiescent current so setting up a base to collector voltage below the avalanche breakdown voltage. The latter connections may be direct or, as in the embodiment, via resistors R-R n . Triggering of transistor T 1 causes avalanche breakdown to occur in the remaining transistors.
