Abstract

140,316. Arnett, F. R. Sept. 2, 1919. Irrigators and like appliances.-In return-fluid apparatus primarily intended for treating the vagina, the tubes are so arranged that either the supply or the overflow may be stopped indepen. dently, or they may both be kept open together. In addition, a non-conducting obturator is em. ployed, so that very hot fluids may be employed without causing discomfort. The supply tube 6 terminates in a spherical nozzle 13 having a ring of perforations some distance from the extremity, which is solid. It projects beyond the spherical enlargement 2 of the return-tube 1 and is kept in position by lugs in the mouth of the enlargement 2, and by being secured to the partitions 5, 8. The return tube 1 empties through a tube 40, which is secured in the partition 5. Both the tubes 6 and 40 are fitted with flexible pipes, that of the former leading to a douche reservoir or to a tap connexion, and that of the latter to a receiving-reservoir. These flexible pipes may be compressed alternately by lugs 33, 34 on the rod 31 which is connected to a spring plug 29. When the lugs 33, 34 are in their mid-position, both tubes are open and a continuous lavage may take place. In order to hold the plug 29 in correct position to allow of this, a clip, as shown in Fig. 5, may be slipped under the flange 26, the plate 46 bearing against the top of the plug 29. The cone 9, which extends from the plate 8 to the partition 5 and acts as an obturator to the vaginal orifice, is completely closed in, and is rendered as nearly as possible vacuous, so that hot liquids may be passed through the inlet pipe without heat being conducted to the walls of the vaginal orifice. The nozzle 13 may have elongated openings instead of holes, as shown in Fig. 4.
