Abstract

1403046 Excavators WEIMAR-KOMBINAT VEB 8 Sept 1972 41857/72 Heading E1F [Also in Division 3H] In a hydraulically operated crane, loader or excavator having a boom 6 and a dipper arm 7 a safety overload system reduces the speed of operation when a first predetermined load moment is exceeded and prevents further operation when a second higher predetermined load moment is exceeded. The system which is described in relation to the boom operating cylinder 4 but is identical for the dipper arm operating cylinder 18 and for a further operating cylinder (34) Fig. 2B (not shown) associated with, for example, the propulsion or rotation of the crane &c comprises a line valve 15 to supply fluid from a pump 131 to the cylinder 4 and a direction control valve 16 to control the valve 15 with fluid from a pump 32. Disconnection valves 14, 33 are connected between the control valve and the line valve and are actuated by solenoids 24, 25 themselves actuated by a relay 19 controlled by a disconnection circuit 3 whose output is zero when the load moment detected by a transducer 2 exceeds the second predetermined limit whereby to close the valves 14, 33. A further control valve 28 is connected between the pump 32 and the direction control valve 16 and is actuated by a solenoid 27 controlled from an output 26 of the disconnection circuit 3 which is zero at the first predetermined load moment to open the valve 28 whereby the pressure in the line valve control circuits is now determined by pressure control valve 30 instead of pressure control valve 29 which is set at a higher value. The lower pressure allows the line valves 14, 33 to partially close and thus reduce the speed of operation of the cylinder 4. In the condition wherein the second load moment has been exceeded and the system shut down, an override switch 11 controlled by a cam disc 10 mounted on the boom 6 acts to energise one of the solenoids 24, 25 to allow movement of the boom in a load moment reducing direction.
