Abstract
1402917 Soil release treatments G A F CORP 28 June 1972 [30 June 1971] 30335/72 Heading DIP [Also in Division C3] An interpolymer ester which imparts soilrelease properties to polyester-containing cellulosic textiles or a mixture of such esters, the interpolymer ester or each component interpolymer ester of a mixture of the esters consisting of the following units (A) and (B) wherein R represents hydrogen, an alkyl group of 1 to 4 carbon atoms, an alkoxy group of 1 to 7 carbon atoms, or an aryl group having a total of 6 to 11 carbon atoms in which the aryl group is a phenyl or naphthyl group or alkyl substituted derivative thereof; R 1 represents an alkyl chain having from 1 to 7 carbon atoms, an oxyalkylene chain having the general formula: R 2 -(OC 2 H 4 ) m - in which R 2 is an alkyl chain having from 1 to 30 carbon atoms and m is an integer of 1 to 10; the units (A) representing 10 to 50% by weight of the interpolymer ester and the units (B) representing 50 to 70% by weight of the interpolymer ester, the interpolymer ester or each component interpolymer ester of a mixture of the esters being water-dispersible and containing 1000 to 25000 units (A) and (B) per molecule and having a molecular weight ranging from 156000 to 4000000 and an asp value of from 0.2 to 3.5 based upon the specific viscosity of the interpolymer ester or component interpolymer ester in methyl ethyl ketone at 25‹C, and in which for the interpolymer ester or for each component interpolymer ester of a mixture of the interpolymer esters the acid number is at least 5% higher than the acid number of the corresponding fully etherified monoester. The textile may have the soil-release properties imparted thereto by application of an aqueous dispersion of the interpolymer ester followed by drying of the treated textile and curing. In examples 5 to 8 polyester-cotton fabrics are padded with solutions containing interpolmer esters prepared from an interpolymer of methyl vinyl ether and maleic anhydride and methyl alcohol and HOCH 2 CH 2 OCH 3 , modified glyoxal type aminoplast resin, a magnesium-based resin catalyst, an anionic surfactant, a textile carbamate resin, an acid salt catalyst and water, dried and cured.
