1402863 Deriving signfils from operating cash registers PLESSEY CO Ltd 2 Oct 1972 [28 Oct 1971] 50291/71 Heading G4T In a cash register system, magnetically- imprinted, valve-indicating data associated with articles is scanned, control signals are derived from the scanned data, and a cash register responds to the signals to provide an itemized and/or totalized print-out of the value(s) of the articles. The control signals may be audio, visual or electromagnetic radiations generated by a transmitter associated with the scanning device. A receiver for the signals is associated (integrally or otherwise) with the cash register. As well as the print-out, other cash register functions (e.g. till drawer release) may be triggered by the signals. The scanning device may be a hand-held probe. The magnetic data may be on labels associated with the articles. By scanning predetermined blocks of magnetic data, error correcting &c. signals may be derived and transmitted to the cash register.
